Mother's Day 2010

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I decided I would get my cards sent to my mom and grandmother on time this year. I usually wait till the last minute and then fret over what to get them and how I'm going to get it sent before their big day is over. This year is different.

Even though both my female caregivers who helped raise me (I was more than one person could handle!) are excellent cooks, they both love to eat out occasionally, so I got them a gift certificate for a restaurant where I know they like to eat.

When I got home from making my purchases and started to sign my name in the cards, I thought, "Well, since I'm early getting the cards ready, I have time to write more than just my name in them."

I sat down and penned a few lines for each of them. Here is what I wrote for my mother:

Dear Mom,

You have stood by me when I couldn't stand alone, yet you taught me to stand on my own two feet and be strong in the face of adversity.

You taught me to help others by the example you set. You helped me when I was unable to help myself.

You've given to me when it meant you would have to sacrifice something you wanted, and you never complained once.

You've pulled me out of messes I got my own self into and never judged me or said, "I told you so."

You raised me to follow your religious teaching, and loved me even when I took a different path that made more sense to me. You know I never could live by the rules or stand for someone to tell me what to do. Thank you for accepting me for who I am and never trying to change me into someone or some thing I can't be.

You taught me to love unconditionally and never hold grudges. Your forgiveness of my shortcomings demonstrated how to forgive others.

Your home as well as your heart is always open to those you love. I am blessed that you love me.

Thank you for being my mom. I love you more than words can say and a lot more than I tell or show you.

Your Loving Daughter,

So, there I shared my heart with my mom and now with you. If you can't think of something nice to write to your mother or significant female on Mother's Day, borrow my words and change the parts that do not apply. If you need to hire a ghostwriter to do this for you, I know of a good one!
