Mother’s Day, celebrated since the late19th century, is a day for the whole family to thank mommy for being there. Let all the mothers among your family and friends know how special they are. Get everyone involved, young and old and make it a day to remember.

Since Mother’s Day is always on a Sunday it’s a great time to get the family together after church for a family celebration dinner. A special meal to celebrate all the mother’s in your family.

If this sounds good to you then think about some of the specifics.

Who will be cooking the meal? Well since it’s Mother’s Day it would be nice if the men in the family rallied around to perform this great service. If not don’t get the mother’s in the kitchen. Secure your spot in a restaurant early. Many people have the same idea on Mother’s Day so don’t be left without a place to eat!

Personally I think you can put together a meal at home to rival any in most restaurants today but you be the judge. If you want to go this route there are many great cookbooks out there for putting together a celebratory meal. Not only is the planning all spelled out for you the recipes and shopping is too.

1.Let the kids help with the meal.

2. Plan so the kitchen is completely cleaned up at the end of the day. don’t leave anything for mother.

3. If you need to don’t be ashamed to use paper plates, cups etc. You know there are some lovely ones at the party store. You might even pick mommy up a hat!

What about gifts? Statistics show this is one of the biggest days for flowers. We usually send a huge bunch to my mother-in-law but what about those mother’s that live nearby? Why not be a little bit more creative with them?

1. Make something. A bath and body product or sew something nice if you are especially handy that way.

2. Collect memorable items in a collage. I remember and article in a magazine I read where the author had collected old memorabilia from his parent’s past, put it together, and had it photographed professionally. It was very nice.

3. Cook up a week’s worth of dinners for a new mom or even and older mom. Have them ready for her freezer. There are very easy recipes out there for this. Search around.

4. Get mom a planner. They are all the rage now and there are specific ones for moms. There actually are so many that you may have a hard time making a choice.

The key is this is a day to show mothers they are special and what better way than to spend time with them? Take the time to pull together a special day and a meaningful gift for those extra special mothers. It will mean more than all the gifts you could buy.
